From 1990-2001, I
worked as a researcher at Babylon, the Center for Studies of
Multilingualism in the Multicultural Society (Tilburg
University).
I wrote my PhD thesis Relating Events in Two Languages. Acquisition of Cohesive Devices by Turkish-Dutch Bilingual Children at School Age. (= Studies in Multilingualism, Vol.2, Tilburg University Press) in 1996. The data collected for this project are available through the CHILDES database. I have been involved (1998-2001) in a research programme called Talen en Culturen in het Utrechtse Lombok en Transvaal, (TCULT) in which languages and cultures in a multicultural neighbourhood in Utrecht (Lombok/Transvaal) were investigated. With Willy Jongenburger, I published the results of a Language and Culture Survey in this neighbourhood. Ad Backus and I wrote the new edition of Colloquial Turkish, the complete course for Beginners , published by Routledge in 2001. Three children's books by the Turkish writer Halil Gür were translated by me. The latest one Ik danste met engelen [I danced with angels], appeared in September 2001. |
