Eastern Telegraph Tuesday 10th March, 1914 - Accident - While returning home from Dungog to Bandon Grove on Saturday evening Mr Pat Neilson who was riding a horse, met with rather a strange accident. Upon approaching another rider his horse shied and started off, and in endeavouring to pull him in the horse reared up and fell back and crushed him. He received some nasty bruises but so far nothing of any serious consequence has happened.

Eastern Telegraph Friday 22nd October, 1915 - Bandon Grove News - Mr Pat Neilson returned home on Tuesday feeling rather pleased he being accepted for active service at last, it being his 3rd attempt. He goes in Camp on November 2nd.

Dungog Chronicle October 29, 1915 - Bandon Grove - Soldiers Farewell - On Thursday evening last the School of Arts Bandon Grove was well filled when the presentation to Pte. Neilson took place. Mr Kingston presented Pte. Neilson with a wristlet watch, fountain pen and stationery.

Red Cross Data - Informant described Neilson as about 5ft 6 inches high, stout build, aged about 26/30 years. Informant states that on 20/9/17, the Battalion was in section at Anzac Ridge, Ypres. Informant had seen Neilson the day before & never saw him again although they both took part in the action. They hopped over at 6.20am. Informant was told by Private Vaughan that he saw Neilson hit about 10.00am but he did not say whether he had been killed, Vaughan was himself wounded about 10 minutes afterwards & by reason of that fact was unable to ascertain what had become of Neilson. Vaughan gave informant this information when they were both in No. 25 general Hospital, Hardelot, France. Informant added that Neilson was well liked by his mates. Dungog Chronicle - Reported Killed - Pte. Harold Neilson, youngest son of Mr. William Neilson, of Bandon Grove, who has been posted missing for some time, has now been reported killed in action. The sad intelligence was conveyed to the parents by Rev. D.M. Benjamin. "Pat", as he was always called, was 27 years of age, and enlisted in July, 1915. He was reported as having been killed in action on Sept 20th, 1917. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Neilson family in their sorrowful loss.

Dungog Chronicle Tuesday 20th July, 1918 - Mrs JR Russell of Dusodie has received through the Australia Red Cross some information concerning her brother Harold (Pat) Neilson from Pte McDonald who was in the same company & battalion as he was in. He states that on 20th July, 1917 the battalion was called into action at 6.20am at Anzac Ridge, Ypres. The informant had seen Pat the day before & never saw him again, although they both took part in the action.
