Welcome to the « Shakespeare on DVD » website!
I first read a Shakespeare play - Julius Caesar - when I
was 16. It was in English class and I can still remember my teacher
reciting Mark Antony's rabble-rousing speech after the murder of
Julius Caesar. Ever since that day I have been interested in William
Shakespeare, his life and times, his works, his theatre.
I have seen countless performances of his plays, both in my own
country and abroad, I have been to his birthplace Stratford-upon-Avon
a dozen times, I have read numerous books about him, I am a member
of various e-mail groups that discuss his life and works, and I
have collected 168 DVDs with recordings of his plays, documentaries
about him and Shakespeare-related films.
I have put short descriptions of the contents of these DVDs on
this website. Each description is accompanied by a value judgement,
which may help you decide whether the DVD is worth purchasing.
You will also find information on this site about the books in my
Shakespeare library. They may be of interest to you as well.
This website is permanently 'in progress'. I frequently add new
entries and revise old ones as I buy new DVDs and books and revisit
previous ones.
Please send me an e-mail
if you have any comments or suggestions. They are welcomed and appreciated.
