On final approach to the airport of Ambegrise Caye island with a Tropic Air Cessna 208 Caravan (V3HEK). Ambegrise Caye island, the largest of some 200 cayes that dot the coastline of Belize, is located in the Caribbean Sea just off the tip of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, sunning and swimming on beautiful coral beach, the gin-clear waters of Ambergris Caye are a diver's, snorkeler's, birder's, and fisherman's paradise.

Fishing, coconuts, and chicle were historic means of islanders support, but in the last twenty to thirty years the incredible scenery of Ambergris Caye has led to a large growth in both the Belize dive and scuba trade, and ecotourism while golf carts became the preferred mode of transportation on Ambergris Caye.

One of the main atractions on Ambergris Caye Island is a trip with one of the glass-bottom boats to the Barrier Reef about half a mile off the winward side of the island. It's the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second longest in the world.

Hand-cranked cable ferry across Mopan River in Belize giving access to the Xunantunich Maya ruin site in San Jose Succotz Village approximately eight miles west of San Ignacio Town in the Cayo District. Xunantunich, which means "Maiden of the Rock" in the Yucatec dialect, was a major ceremonial center during the Classic period (300-900 AD) and was likely abandoned after an earthquake.
