He was known for his outstanding quality of knitting fishnets and eelbownets. On later age he also repaired clocks, watches, barometers and such instruments. In a little shop in Kolhorn, bells, watches, alarmclocks and barometers were sold and repaired. The frontdoor was placed in the middle of the front, at the right of the door was the shop and at the right was the room where the grandsons looked speechlessly like little boys how grandfather knitted the nets. His hands moved so fast that they could hardly follow. Later he also was a postman in Kolhorn.

As so many Keuris-familymembers also Arie had a large love for water and everything concerning water. He had a small boat in the canal and regulary took his grandsons out fishing. Omly Arie could not stand the fact that sometimes his grandsons caught more fish than he did. He would be grumping all day. During SantaClaus holidaus, Maartje van Zonen had dressed a fish as a surprise for Arie. However, he could not appreciate it and he walked out angry. For him it was a type of sacrilege do this with a fish.

He spent his last years at his daughter Elisabeth in Amersfoort where he worked in the garden. He died in 1952, age 72 and has been buried on “Rusthof”in Amersfoort . Arie was the son of Gerrit Keuris and Elizabeth Boerman. He came from a family of 6 children ( 4 brothers and 1 sister).

He did not realise there were more Germans on the country than in the city. The house in Kolhorn was searched three times. Everytime the Germans came Dick sat on top of the travellingbox to prevent that the Germans would look in it. Klaas had althopugh he came from a large family, as well as his brothers and sisters ambition to make more of his life. As a schoolboy he worked already as a doctor-aid. He brought medecines. His big dream was to become a doctor. But in those days earning mony was more important. After studying a number of years he became a skipper ( sailers enslave) in Kolhorn. Afterwards he went to his sisters and brothers in Den Haag. There Klaas could follow training to become a driver, fitter and welder.

After gaining his diplomas Klaas was contracted at the firm Van der Bos en de Vries. A company which was busy with the draining of the Wieringermeer. Also after Klaas married  with Maartje he workes ath the firm for a long time.

He had got offers for work in Canada and Portugal when the grocery ( which belongs to the father of Maartje) had problems during the depression. When Klaas his son was about 5 years old Klaas took over the shop from his father and moved houses. Grandfather “van Zonen”moved to the Oude Streek and Klaas his family moved into the house in the Nieuwe Streek. The family lived there for 18 years. After Klaas had taken over the grocery he follwed an apothecary course and started to sell lots of medicines. He also followed training for photograpy and filmmaking. The middel-class movies of 1936 ,1937, 1938 and 1939 were of his hands. The shoe-chamber in the house in de Nieuwe Streek was converted to a studio and in the attic a dark chamber was arranged. In the studio family-photographs were made and during the war passportphotos for the passports.

During the war a Lancaster-bomber crashed down above Kolhorn and for the memory on the cemetery a monument was erected. Because of the photograph Klaas made of the monument and the 7 gravestones of the fallen crewmembers, which Klaas by means of resistance had sent tot the Red Cross in the United Kingdom , he came in contact with the parents of the crewmembers of the Lancaster . A visit tot the grave of their son resluted in that Klaas started corresponding with the Family Wishart in Australia . By sponsoring from this family Wishart Klaas obtained a license tot come to Australia . Klaas and Maartje did not go like an emigrant to Australia . On March 19th 1951 the family went by train to Genua in Italy . From there they left with the italian steamer “Toscana” of Lloyd Triestino to Australia . On Mai 2 1951 they arrived in Melbourne . Because it wasn’t permitted to bring along the money from the sold business to Australia , he bought a pre-fabricated house which was permitted. Klaas took some time off leave and while son Dick was making the money for the family, they could build the house in the weekends and by the next Christmas it was done. Maartje still lived there. Although the house was not yet ready it was a busy time. Klaas his brother, Dick, came to Australia in January 1952 and also needed help. Son Dick had a broken wrist so he couldn’t work. He helped both his uncle Dick with the advancement of his house and in the weekends his father with depicting their own house. In 1952, Klaas started working as a welder with the intention of earning sufficient funds to get his own camera and to start a photograpy business. This succeeded after some years. In the next couple of years he opened three stores in Melbourne and became one of the biggest self-made business men in Australia . In 1968 he gett ill. He suffered from emphasemism.

After advice from his son Klaas en Maartje they went on a holiday in the Netherlands in 1969. Afterwards he still has had some good years with Maartje. On July 4 1971 Klaas died.
