Purple Garden or Frontyard

The frontyard is the only part of the garden that's visible from the road. Due to heat of the sun, water splashing from the road and a heavy clay soil that was put here by the stream, growing conditions are rather tough. Although many plants don't survive, hardy geraniums love it here.

The front garden is a true Spring garden. It starts blooming in February with the first bright yellow flowers of the common celandine (Ranunculus ficaria), which are soon followed by tulips and daffodills.

Common Celandine and Daffodills in early Spring.

Until in early May the first blue and pink hardy geraniums take over. They thrive on this heavy clay soil. Due to cross-overs we hardly know which is which anymore.
