Monday, January 10
Although winter hasn't even begun yet, the early morning light is already different and days are getting longer. A cold spell is due next week and we'll have to bring thermal underwear on our trip up north. But thank God, the worst is over: November and December with their grayness, humidity, rain and autumn storms. Monday, January 17
After eleven months we're back on Schiermonnikoog, the smallest of the northern islands of the Netherlands. On Monday, when all the weekend tourists have left, the island is even quieter than before. The emptiness of the landscape, the sun and fresh sea wind are nurturing. We take a twelve miles walk thru the marshes and dunes, and have a wonderful brunch in the village afterwards.
Wednesday, January 19
Although we've rented our cottage until Friday, we decide to leave early and spend a night and day in the city of Groningen before we go home. It's been more than enough: we're full and satisfied. Because our favorite vegetarian restaurant 'Brussels Lof' is closed, we end up in Mechoui, a nice Moroccan restaurant with live music. Thursday, January 20
No visit to Groningen
is complete without a visit to the Groninger Museum. Even though the
present Diaghilev exhibition with early 20th century theatre costumes

Minutian's sister who
lives in a stuffed one-room apartment has already three aquaria and
an Indian Stick Insect in a jelly jar. So when one of her guppies ( |
