First Gentlemen's Dinner in the stable. (photo: Hans Moerbeek).

The last couple of years have been so busy - to use an euphemism - that we had hardly any time and/or no energy left to meet with our close friends, who are very dear to us. That should change! And fast!
Tonite for the very first time, we organize what we'd planned to do already more than 10 years ago: a dinner party exclusively for our gay male friends and acquaintances. Let's hope this Heerendiner will become a tradition and for all a nice opportunity to connect up with kindred spirits.

River IJssel near Bronkhorst (NL).

Today we celibrate our own New Year's Day, for it's our seventeenth anniversary. (The seventh officially.) A day for reminishing and finetuning together. To make plans for the future. Because our wedding restaurant is closed today, we go for the "second best" option (Hotel-Restaurant De Engelenburg in Brummen (NL)), which has become one of our favorit outlets. Because we arrive here early, we have plenty of time for a nice contemplative walk along the river IJssel.

Winter Pleasures spectacle at the Grande Place, Brussels (BE).

A few months ago JG's sister gave us a city trip she had won in a sweepstake. And because the voucher will soon be overdue, because we have never been to Brussels before, and because Brussels has one of the finest Christmas Markets in the region, we are here tonite at the Grande Place to enjoy this amazing Winter Pleasures spectacle. The trip is also a fine opportunity to finally meet with two beautiful friends we've met thru the internet. We hope to meet them tomorrow. But first: dinner! (Restaurant Kasbah, Brussels (BE).).

Boxing Day. And for us the day after. We had a wonderful dinner yesterday with our families. After we have cleaned up the stable, we spend the rest of the day at home, doing nothing, bellying out. Too bad that our former neighbors couldn't make it: she's suffering from a heart condition and not doing too well. Let's hope 2009 will bring her and all of you who are ill a speedy recovery and to all of us, despite this economic recession, loads of happiness and wisdom.

Rain: The Bedroom (2004).

The end of the year, too cold for hiking, but a perfect opportunity to make up for all the exhibitions we have missed this year. The Municipal Museum of The Hague displays four series of photo's by Erwin Olaf (Erwin Olaf (1959), photographer.): Rain, Hope, Grief and Fall. Although we are big fans of his work, the exhibition is a bit disappointing. The scenery is perfect, but the people stay mere actors. The brochure says that the models evoke a certain kind of standoffishness. Right! A rather strange approach if you want to confront your viewers with grief or hope. Only with this little ginger fellow in his whities we'd love to feel the rain and follow him back to the 50's.
