The Scottish CLAN FERGUS(S)ON. The Dutch Fergusons are descendants from members of the Scottish Clan Fergus(s)on. Its founder, William Ferguson, was a Scot, born in Kelso (Scotland) in 1735. Hardly anything is known about where he descends from or the connection between his forefathers and the existing genealogy of the Scots Fergus(s)ons.

FERGUSONS in the Netherlands. Our founder, William Ferguson, was not the first nor the last Scottish Ferguson to settle down in the Netherlands. Of those other Fergusons no Dutch descendants carrying the name Ferguson are alive anymore, as far as we know.

The Dutch Family
After William came to Holland he was registered in Amsterdam in 1782 as "Poorter en Koopman" (Citizen and Merchant) and started a shop in silverware in the Kalverstraat, on the corner next to the Weeshuis (Orphanage). His son George continued the shop with English glassware and fancy-goods. George's son Jonathan was also registerd as "Poorter" in 1810 but he left for Curacao in 1818. There he became a solicitor at the Council of Civil and criminal Justice. He got two daughters who died childless, and two sons: George August Laan and Jan Helenus. George August Laan got 17 children and eversince his descendants are called the "Group of 17". Jan Helenus got 13 children and guess what ... his defendants are the "Group of 13".
