I robot, You Jane

Willow falls for a guy she meets on the internet, not realising  he's actually a demon with plans to take over the world.

I have to be honest up front :I robot, you Jane is not my favorite buffy episode. This doesn't mean that the ep is entirely bad, I just think that it could have been so much better. The ending with the moloch robot was not only the worst special effect in the show, ever, but also the most hard to believe. This is the first time we see an enemy in the show, that buffy can't phisically fight, which is an interesting thing to explore (this is done way better in the second season episode: Killed by death) . However, the way the threat becomes something she can handle in the form of the robot is truly dissapoining. The other and in my opinion most important theme in this ep, was books vs, the internet( and the potential danger of that medium). Although you have to love the discussions between giles and Ms. Calander (of whom we will see much more, as she plays an important part in the second seasons major story arc), the way they dealt with the problem is also disapointing. Nowhere you can find some hint of what the writer wanted to say, almost as if he was affraid to show his opinion on this subject (which kinda makes sense when you consider the large internet fan base of  buffy). Also the arguments are fun but very black and white : either you read books and hate the internet or it's the other way around, nowhere to be found in this ep is the possibility of liking both-which strikes me as a little strange. There is a highlight in this episode though, wich is when, at the end of the ep, buffy and the gang realise they're never gonna date as normal people while they're living on the hellmouth-and aint that the truth. Another thing that is nice to see is how Xander seems a little bit jealous when willow is all excited about this malcolm guy. Does this hint at something other than friendshipy feelings toward willow?
There is one thing that struck me as strange during this ep: Why does moloch change the thesis of a students paper to: "Nazi germany was a model of a well-ordered society"?  The name fritz is also the term that allied forces used for German soldiers(thanx to Bite me! by Nikki stafford for that one). Maybe it's a little far-fetched, but wath does nazi germany have to do with anything? Is moloch being compared to Hitler? I don't get that.
All in all I have to say that I robot, You Jane is the worst buffy episode to date.
