Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon
Nuclear Blast 2003

Question : What does Norway's biggest (possibly) black metal band do after they release a slab of pure genius with a 14 piece orchestra on it?
Answer : Get a 47 piece orchestra and have Abbath (Ex Immortal [R.I.P]) do guest vocals on "Progenies Of A Great Apocalypse" and "Heavenly Perverse".

Dimmu Borgir need no introduction... but they're going to get one anyway. Coming from Norway, this band have set themselves 3 steps ahead of pretty much all the bands there.
With their sixth full release, Death Cult Armageddon (and staying with the three word titles), Dimmu Borgir are continuing to progress musically and further adding more depth and quality to the already superb music they make, and with the previous release being the incredible "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" they have set themselves a hard task of trying to top that. but so far so good.
"Allegiance", the first track, clicks and grinds at first then joins the guitars, slowly building up to the trademark sound that Dimmu has, fast black metal with plenty of atmosphere and this time with the previously mentioned 47 piece orchestra. Then Dimmu surpass anything on Puritanical.... with the absolutely awesome (and also the video which is very addictive) "Progenies Of A Great Apocalypse". This is the highlight of this album, the orchestra is absolutely perfectly mixed in with Dimmu's brand of black metal and Vortex shines with his clean vocals along with the guest appearance of Abbath from the now split Immortal. You'd think that's it after having that track so early, but no, that's not all, next is "Lepers Among Us", this time the orchestra isn't heavily featured making it just the normal Dimmu sound which helps break up the sound, too much orchestra and it would have flooded the cd, but they have made the sound just right.
I would tell you the stand out tracks, but I don't think I could put it any other way than the whole of Death Cult Armageddon is an awesome album (except Progenies... which is a truly awesome track). All the band members put in maximum effort and the quality speaks for it's self.

I cant stress enough how much you NEED this album, it's fucking awesome and it's also an album that's going to be hard to top, but after everything from this band, it will not surprise me in the least if they do make a better album, oh and I know Nicholas Barker moved to Dimmu a while ago, but I bet he's sat behind those drums and thinking to himself "Moving from Cradle Of Filth was the best thing is did" because there is no way CoF could ever be this good. Buy this NOW!
