Demo 2003
Coming from the land where they breed power
metal bands and where the Gothenburg metal grows on trees its must
not always be easy to stand up from the rest, maybe this is the
reason why guitarist Palle and bassist Adde decided to try out their
luck in the UK. Why they didn’t make it out there is something I
don’t understand but maybe they were just there in the wrong time
and the wrong place, however they moved back to Sweden and hooked
back up with drummer Jimmie and now, a couple years later I am
listening to “the best of all bloody fucking demos” which was
recorded at various times between 2001 and 2003.
This demo turned out the be the demo of surprises, the first
surprise I’ve got was the paper cover, which I find a shame,
because for a little extra cash they should have put it in a “slim
pack” and make it look a bit more professional because its what
this demo deserves especially if you notice that this demo took
almost 2 years and has 8 songs on it. Indeed 8 tracks, that was my
second surprise 8 full length tracks so without the ever popular
intro and outro tracks which bands now a days often seem to use to
make their cd to a story rather than a
“no-nonsense-break-your-neck” disk, however that’s exactly
what this demo is!!
First song on the demo is “Riding in the
Sun” this song immediately shows you what you can expect from this
cd, the style as the band describes it is “Groove metal” not
sure what that means but if this is groove metal then its cool.
It’s a mixture of riffs that grab you by the throat and don’t
let go until they’re done but even then you’ll find yourself
humming the riffs at any given time. The songs are pretty standard
and easy to understand. Song two reminds me most of
“Freakkitchen’s - Propaganda Pie” however further in the song
it automatically develops its own style again due to the voice of
singer/guitarist Palle or maybe it’s the voice of singer/bassist
Adde? Either way the credit goes to the band really for their work.
The intros remind me somewhat of Pantera but that’s mainly because
of the pinched harmonics.
My favourite song on the demo is “If I Die”, as all songs it
starts out with a catchy riff but then slides into a somewhat of a
semi ballad with touching vocals lines and a killer solo. I guess
the earlier mention term groove metal can be best defined with
“Shave” another damn catchy song of which the main riff wont
leave you alone for hours.
I’m not sure what’s more intriguing about this demo, the
production, the songs or the excellent vocals,… therefore I am not
even gonna try and you’ll just have to decide for yourselves. How,
you ask, well we’ve linked the band ofcourse and also we’ve
linked 2 mp3’s from this demo in the media section of this site.

The only point of disappointment is that in
some songs it would have been nice if the guitars were dubbed for
example in the solo of “If I Die” where the song goes weak due
to the lack of rhythm guitar during the solo and also some more
double bass drumming wouldn’t ruin the songs either. Other than
these two things this demo is a splendid production and if send to
the right people at the right labels I am sure we’ll hear more
from Fuelhead in the future, I most certainly hope so.
