Malignancy - Cross Species Transmutation
United Guttural 2003

Malignancy, the technical / death metallers from New York are back with their third album Cross Species Transmutation. After 11 years of demo's, live shows 3 albums and numerous line up changes, Malignancy have unleashed a new beast guaranteed to keep their name way up there with the other great brutal bands and stay near the top of all the other New York death metal bands. This also marks the last album for which Roger J. Beaujard (Mortician) on drums so that he can concentrate on guitar work for Mortician.

Spanning over 7 short tracks in just under 17 minutes, Malignancy deliver some of the most technical death metal to come out this year. Starting with "Virulent Contagion", you'd be forgiven for thinking it was Morticians new album. Using a sound clip from a movie, hearing breaking glass, animal noises and other chilling sounds, you gear yourself up for the manic Mortician sound, but then Malignancy launch you right into their own brand of brutality.

Keeping their trademark sound, Malignancy vomit up tracks like "Fibroid Embolism", "Post Mortem Perception", "Congenital Decadence" and "Ovarian Incubation" they show that short technical blasts of brutality can make an impact even if extremely short but Malignancy are more about quality rather than quantity and the quality shows on this release just like it has on previous albums.

With Roger J, Beaujard leaving them, the replacement Mike Heller may add something new to the band seeing them progress in a new direction on the next release, but until then this is one hell of a great album to help feed your thirst for Malignancy, although you'll be wanting more from them due to the quickness of the album.
