Mother of Sin - Mother of Sin
demo 2003 - MoS self financed

Wow, what's this!  This debut 3 track demo CD from Dutch band Mother of Sin kicks some serious ass!

When I opened the enveloppe with this CD I didn't know what to expect. After I put the CD in my cd player I couldn't help smiling.  It's a long time ago since I heard this kind of music. An old Duth saying goes "If it comes from far away, it's good". But after hearing the three songs on this demo, I could say that good things also happen near by.

The first song "Into the fire" bursts out with lots of shredding, like old Elegy or Cacophony. Eduard sings like in his Elegy days. In fact this song could easily be mistaken for an old Elegy song. Great song, with a nice slower solo which changes in some nice twin soloing.

"Cover my eyes" starts somewhat slower and is a sort of ballad. But done the Mother of Sin way. This song also features great twin soloing.

Unfortunately the third song is also the last one. "Beyond Fear" is full of great twin guitar work we like from bands like Apocrypha or Cacophony.  This song is somewhat heavier than the other two and is definitely my favourite on this demo.

In short this new Dutch band is one of the best new bands I have heard recently.  All the musicians are masters of their instrument. Fans from bands like (old) Elegy, Cacophony or even Symphony X will like this band. Agression and melodies go hand in hand, combined with great technical parts. I can only say one word: "Awesome!"

The only downfall about the CD is that it's to short. I can hardly wait until they will release a full lenght CD.  Any record company a&R manager with ears, would sign them imediatly.

If you are interested in hearing the songs, you can download them on the Mother of Sin site. It's worth the effort.
