Negura Bunget - 'n Crugu Bradley
Code 666 Records 2002

Finally a Black Metal album released in the last two years that I didn’t get bored with after a few listens. Having said that, the thing that stood out the most to me on the Initial listen was that at any given moment you could Cleary pick out the bass guitar. Another thing that stood out was the many tempo changes, everything from the typical blast beats that accustomed to black metal to quieter undistorted almost folkish sounding parts.

A clear example of this can be found in track two (1:48 - 3:33), The Song starts whit a mid-paced intro, Negura Bunget totally throwing a curve thinking they’ll hit hyper speed completely break the song down for a more somber passage. Then again at 6:22 - 7:28. If I had to compare this with any album Ulver’s Bergtatt comes to mind, but a bit more technical, and complex arrangements.

If your not in to Epic length Black Metal then this album is definitely not for you, four tracks clocking in at over 53 minutes. It’s nice for a change hearing a Black Metal band doing their own thing. I think Negura Bunget have reach their potential, this album is a vast improvement over all albums from their past, a victim of being signed too early. Perhaps now they are the best Black Metal band from Romania.

I could go on and on about this album, but I’ll stop here. Definitely a album worth picking up. Note: From what I gather this is a concept album, but the lack of being from Romaina, I’ll leave for the Negura Bunget’s official site to explain.

85/100
