Sinphonia
- The Divine Disharmony
Lucretia Records International. 2002
"Good job it was free."
I was warned about this album by our beloved editor Michael... He told me that he'd be sending me a couple of promo CDs [see Chrome Shift review soon] and that this Sinphonia album wasn't too exciting. He said that the music's pretty good, but the vocals suck. I didn't believe him, I thought that he'd be wrong, and so I checked out this CD with the best intentions. Know what? He was wrong! The music is a pile of pants as well!
It's hard to compare Sinphonia with anyone, because I've never really heard anything that's this difficult to listen to before. (Limp Bizkit perhaps.) I just don't find the guitar riffs or the keyboard-work catchy - and not only that, the production of it all is dull. Regarding Monika's vocals: it's not as though she's out of key, and I'm not expecting her to sing like Sharon Den Adel or Tarja Turunen, but I just find her voice really grating.
My only positive view about The Divine Disharmony is that there's a concept within the album, and the story has been thought out well.
I understand that this is the third album by Sinphonia - goodness knows who's buying their records - but it proves that there is a fanbase big enough for them to keep releasing material.
I know that I've said some pretty awful things about Sinphonia, and if I'd worked really hard on an album like these guys have - only to hear negative comments about it, it would truly annoy me. But they have fans somewhere... So they must appeal to someone.
Sad to say though, this most definitely isn't my thing and I'm usually quite willing to listen to
anything.
