Svartsyn - Destruction Of Man

Svartsyn, one of
Sweden's few Black metal bands are back with their fourth album "Destruction Of Man". With a raw sound, the two members are being
labeled as "Satanic Cursed Black Metal". Certainly a description to make you wonder just how they sound and having three previous albums under their belt (The True Legend 1997, Bloodline 1998 and ....His Majesty 2000) 2
Demo's (A Night Created By The Shadows 1995 and Digerdoden 1995 and a split demo with Illska In 1993, they are etching their name in the BM halls of fame and with a comparison like Darkthrone (no
explanation needed), that will surely put them up with the Black Metal "Elite".
The comparison to Darkthrone is a very good one too, they do sound a
lot like them but that is a bit of a problem in it's self. They are a reasonably high speed band, they play together well, but they seem to run out of ideas as to where to go through the songs. Now
don't get me wrong, I do like Black Metal, but there does need to be a bit of diversity in there and after a while of listening to this, it all blends into one long song.
The production on here isn't too bad, it is clear and you can tell what's
happening, although the bass gets lost somewhere along the line. The drumming is pretty much faultless, but then that could be because Draugen is formerly of Dark Funeral.
Ornias, who has been in this band since the first incantation of Svartsyn (Chalice), also shows his faultless guitar work and some good vocals. |
Ornias and Draugen do have the ability to make an album to remember, this however cant be their best work,
it's long winded, far too repetitive and is in need of a touch more production. Not an album to have you pissing yourself with excitement, but one to surely fill every Black Metallers ears full of grim, evil, satanic metal.
56/100
