The Haunted - One Kill Wonder
Earache Records 2003

Thrash fans rejoice!! The Haunted are back and better than ever. Make sure to fasten your safety belts, wear the proper headgear, return your trays to their full upright position, and prepare your senses for the massacre that is "One Kill Wonder".

Since their arrival on the scene in 1997, The Haunted have been pounding out the kind of aggressive music that the thrash metal scene has been in serious need of for quite some time. After going through a couple of line up changes early on (the original singer and drummer departed to pursue other musical projects) The band has become a well-oiled and unstoppable machine. Rising from the ashes of the legendary metal band At The Gates (with the original drummer, and the Björler brother's being former members of ATG) The Haunted have broken free from the stigma of being nothing more than a spin off of ATG, and established themselves as a rising force.

The first track, "Privation of Faith Inc." is your basic, run of the mill intro. But track 2, "Godpuppet" hits you like a ton of bricks with it's blistering riffs and raw, in your face vocals. You'll be in the mood to kill in no time. And don't expect them to let up on you very much. Oh no, the whole album is a non-stop ass kicking. You're gonna be struggling to catch your breath by the time it's all said and done.

With songs like "Everlasting", "D.O.A.", "One Kill Wonder", the afore mentioned "Godpuppet" and my personal favorite "Shithead" beating you senseless over and over and over. If you're anything like me, the urge to scream "RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and throw shit around will come over you more than once throughout the course of your listening. My suggestion: Wait until no one else is around, and give in to the urge,  (make sure you put away all the fine China first though) because this album is nothing short of therapy for all of that pent up rage inside.

I can't say enough for the guitar work on this album. With near perfect mixes of speed, precision, melody and well placed solo's. Anders and Jensen are magicians on the fret board. They make the riffs sound so simple and effortless, but take it from a guitar player, there's nothing simple about what they're doing. The drums are damn good too. Per is an under appreciated drummer, hopefully he'll start getting the credit he deserves. And last, but certainly not least are the vocals. What can I say? Marco was born to be lead singer of The Haunted. His style is perfect for the music that they play. It's a match made in thrash metal Heaven.

If you can't already tell, I think this album is incredible. The songs flow perfectly all the way through. The production leaves nothing to be desired. "One Kill Wonder" will grab you by the throat from the very beginning, and never let go. An unrelenting assault on your ears that'll leave you twitching from head to toe, and begging for more. About as close to perfect as it gets. GET THIS ALBUM TODAY!!!!
