Type data   Lectotype (pr: H 40.4, L 39.8, D 7.9 mm) Zoological Survey of India, New Alipore, Calcutta (ZSI 6154/9), designated by Dijkstra (1995: 13). Type locality: Laccadive Sea, 15*02'N, 72*34'E, 1353 m, alive, grey ooze, 05.05.1890 ("Investigator" stn 105).

  Shell up to ca. 50 mm high, translucent, creamy, fragile, flattened, circular, inequivalve, inequilateral, auricles equal and smooth.

  Left valve slightly more inflated than right valve, with some commarginal growth lines, and 1-3 delicate radial lirae near posterior margin. Right valve with widely spaced commarginal lirae. Internal ribs 8-10. Byssal notch and ctenolium lacking.

Habitat  Living bathyally on soft bottom assemblages.
