On Friday the 25th of November, 2005, a Leach's Storm-Petrel Oceanodroma leucorhoa was found underneath a tree in a garden at Amstelveen, just south of Amsterdam. The boys had great fun bringing this bird back to its true habitat: the sea. Enjoy some great photographic footage here! |

On Sunday the 23th of October, 2005, Martijn Renders, Niels van Houtum, Rob van Bemmelen, Swen Rijnbeek, Ben Wielstra, Mark Gal and me, Kasper Hendriks, had a
terribly good day of seawatching at the small Dutch isle of Schiermonnikoog. They found the 8th Dutch Brünnich's Guillemot Uria lomvia ever, and only the 2nd to be seen alive! Moreover, the previous Dutch day record of 700 Little Auks Alle alle was smashed and more than quadrupled!!! |

In the weekend of May the 28th until May the 31th, the boys Ben, Maarten, Rob, Swen and Kapser drove to the south of The Netherlands, also known as Limburg. The meaning of this trip: seeing some real Limburg specialities. An astonishing beautiful one is shown here: Swallowtail Papilio machaon .

On March the 6th, 2004, Bienze and Kapser were happily surprised to find a Iceland Gull Larus glaucoidus on the shore of Katwijk aan Zee, The Netherlands. Ironically, at the same time Maarten and some friends drove all the way to Rotterdam to have a look at the long-staying Iceland Gull in the harbor over there, while most of their weekends are spend at the place this bird turned up. |

On the morning of Saturday, April the 17th, 2004, a Large Tortoiseshell Nymphalis polychloros was found on the north-eastern
side of the Brielsegatdam, next to The Oostvoornsemeer, The Netherlands. The butterfly was quite worn and has probably been spending the winter in the country. Immediately after its discovery, the news has been spread through the Dutch Birding pager system. |

Further, check some of the photographs I made of a stunning male
Eastern Black-eared Wheatear Oenanthe hispanica melanoleuca at the Isle of Texel in 2003. It was massively twitched on one of the finest days of 2003.

Also interesting is the observation of a Steppe Eagle Aquila nipalensis in the summer of 2003 in the Hortobagy National Park, Hungary. Read more about it on this page. |

Maybe you like the very special observation of a Jack Snipe Lymnocryptes minimus at Lentevreugd, Wassenaar, The Netherlands, in November 2003. How often is one able to observe this species at this range?!

In the autumn of 2000, I had the chance to record the call of a Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva with only a very simple taperecorder. Listen to this Wren-like sound on this page...
