Type species. - Sipyloidea sipylus (Westwood) [Necroscia
sipylus] 1859, p. 138, by original designation.
Main characteristics. - Head elongate and depressed; eyes
typically positioned at the front of the head; elytra and wings long, former
depressed and usually bluntly humped; operculum acuminate or hind margin
round; legs elongate and femora usually unarmed.
Distribution. - Widely spread from the Indian Subcontinent
up to China, and to New Guinea and Australia
