136 Katy and David Sreeves from Birmingham, UK: We are the proud parents of Tara-May Sreeves who is just about to celebrate her first birthday. I was looking on your web pages for ideas for a speech at her 'naming ceremony' we are about to have. So, many thanks for all the contributors information. I will certainly tell everyone what a prestigious group she shares her name with. Im a bit smug about choosing such a fantastic name now! We named Tara-May as such because we are both Paraglider pilots who romantically met on a hill top and soon had our beautiful baby. Therefore, we wanted the hills or mountains to feature in her name. The May part comes from her being born in the same merry month.Tara Rachel Mortimer from Burscough,Lancs,England: i have been told that the name Tara comes from a number of goddesses gosh we are gifted in having this name, people like both my names.
My name is Terra because first of all It was named after Gone with the wind movie and it is a Native American name meaning "Star". :) it also means mother earth.
140 Yucky Bear: my girlfriend's name is Tara and I love her soooo much. she's all irish and cute, i think her name means tower or something.
Sometimes life can be cruel: see number 152.
Tara Marie Millena: MY parents got the name tara from the last two letters of my mom and first 2 letters of my dad. And thats really great coz i really like my name, in fact i don't have a nickname coz i only want the people to call me tara. And i like the meaning of my name in sanskrit, which is "star".
Tarra Nicole: I had no idea that Tara was such a popular name......and Tara Nicole nonetheless......anyhoo my name is Tarra Nicole and I too was named after Gone with the wind but just have a bit of a different spelling. What a great name!
Tara (from MO) : My mother named me Tara because she thought the name was elegant and a little uncommon. My mom is very different and she thought my name should be too. Not very many people have that name, but as time goes on I notice more and more Taras are beginning to pop up! And of course my mom was a fan of "Gone with the Wind".
Tara Martinez: Before I saw this page I never knew of another person with the name Tara that got her name from Tara King of the Avengers. I'm not alone! I suspect we are all around the same age too (born in or near the 70's). That is where my father got my name. He liked the character and he liked the way her name was pronounced (Tah-ra). Everyone mispronounces my name and I have to correct them several times before they get it right. Even then some people stubbornly want to call me Terra. I have come to really like my name and the way its pronounced. In this country its pretty unusual. In fact, although I have met other women and girls named Tara, I have never actually met one that pronounces it the way I do.
Tara M. Lowry from San Francisco-USA: I wasn't named from Gone With the Wind--my mom named me after a bitchy character on All My Children!
Tara Lubeski from Branford, CT, age 13. Hello everyone, I thought Tara was a very uncommon name. But after I read all of these people who wrote about the name, my first reaction was WOW!! I love my name. I can't believe it was named after a country in Africa. I feel so special! My great grandmother suggested that name to my mother. She said that it was a very strong name. My great grandmother said that I was going to be the first women President of the U.S.A!! She said I was going to be the special one of the family, and that I was going to be the strongest. I always wanted to meet my great-grandmother. She died before I was born, it was the night before I was born. My mother told me many things about her, and that she was a very special person in our family. We had her funeral when I came home from the hospital. I went, but of course I don't remember anything. But I just want to thank her for giving me the beautiful name, ~TARA~.
Tara Burr Henderson from Birmingham, AL (USA): I do not have anything else to add to your list that hasn't already been said except that I was named after my aunt Sara who is truly a special lady. My mom wanted to honor her by naming me after her, but also wanted to give me a special legacy of my own, one that I am honored to share with all of you.

Tara: I got my name from a character on the US soap All My Children, back in the 70's. My grandma picked the name, my parent's had no say in it!
150 Hi! My name is Tara Schlosser, and I come from Brighton, Colorado (USA). I am 12 years old. My mom named me Tara because 1st of all she was a huge fan of the movie "Gone With The Wind". 2nd of all my mom new that in Germany it meant "Wild Goat". 3rd is that the name Tara is different then most names like Brittany. But, I bet every Tara is different from all other people . You may not notice it but you are. Last but not least is my mom also named me after my grandma. Her name was Tara. I think that if any of you Tara's think you should be the same as other people, you shouldn't just because I think in polish the name Tara means "different". That's why we have this beautiful and unique name.
I was curious if you had an email address for Tara Rachel Mortimer? My name is also Tara Mortimer ( Email: EastSoccer12@aol.com; in case Tara Rachel reads this message) and would like to share this with her. Thank you!
152 Yucky Bear: please remove my post (number 140) about tara, i don't think she's cute anymore in fact, i believe she may be the worst tara of all.
My name is Tara Ann Lowry from Ottawa, Canada. My parents thought I was going to be a boy so they only chose a boy's name, Jason. They chose Tara right after the delivery on the spur of the moment. I am Irish and the name doesn't get any more Irish than that, although I'm thinking changing my surname back to my ancestral O'Lowry. I think my parents did a great job. I wouldn't want any other name!
Tara Ann Watts (Mezzacapa): My mother named me after the soap opera character from All my Children. I recently met another woman with the same name, her mother also picked her name from the same character. I have always enjoyed meeting other girls with the same name. It is interesting to see what they look like :)
Tara Bloomfield from Perth, Australia: Unfortunately my story is very much like the others - my mother watched Gone With the Wind whilst pregnant with me and loved the name. However, everyone expected me to be a boy and had already named me 'Ian'. Thank goodness I'm a girl!
Mario Amaya : I'm a guy, and I just have to say that Tara is such an amazing name. I swear, every time I hear it, my heart skips a beat. Back in high school, we only had one Tara in the whole school. She was amazing. She was beautiful, smart, and so sweet. I guess ever since then the name Tara has always symbolized that sense of beauty and sweetness to me.
Tara Landry: My name is Tara (pronounced TA rah, with the first 'a' having a small vowel sound, and the emphasis on the first syllable.) I think my mum was trying to be amusing because she named me Tara (which was the capital of ancient Ireland) and Erin (which is how you say Ireland in galic). Basically my name in full is the captial city and the county, kind of like London, England!
Tara Michelle from Boston. My mother and father named me Tara because my mother liked the name and thought Michelle went nicley with it. I only know one other Tara, so it's weird seeing all of these Taras, especailly the ones who also have the middle name Michelle. I'm not picky about the pronunciation, my mother calls me Tara like Sara, but half my family calls me Tahrah. I don't mind, I like both, I just get mad when people who pronounce it one way start to use the other, it sounds wierd.
My name is Tara Perriwinkle. My parents named me this because they thought it was a very beautiful name and plus Gone with the Wind.
160 Another "Tara Wells from Canada": My Mom chose this name because of our Irish heritage and I think she just really liked it. I've always liked it too although it is a tad common!
This other Tara Wells can be found on Tara-page 2 (number 62).
Marcela from Argentina: Tara is the female bodhis attva, she's the most important buddhist female manifestation, she's a protector of all women and child, she's the "action of compassion". If one day i could have a babe, her name will be Tara.
Tara Elizabeth McGrath: My mom named me Tara after the character on "All my Children"! See my mom is a really big fan of soaps my two other sisters were named after characters on soaps. I don't think she picked the name because of Gone with the Wind she doesn't read and there probably isn't enough drama in the movie for her. I didn't like my name growing up either because it wasn't common or like anyone else's name but I have grown to like my name. I've noticed now though that may name is becoming very common now. My middle name was my grandmother's name, my mom wanted to carry on her name some how sense she died when my mom was very young but she hates the name Elizabeth. So she named me Tara Elizabeth I like my name and I'm proud that I can carry a part of my grandmother on with me.
I'm 18 yrs old and so far, I've only met one other Tara. It's not a common name among my peers. My dad named me Tara because he liked the name and my older brother and sister have names that start with T (Tamilia and Torryn). Also, my Mom says there was a soap opera character named Tara(ter-a) but she preferred the name pronounced "Tar-rah." My parents still argue over the spelling. My dad likes the traditional spelling but my Mom believes people wouldn't mispronounce my name if it was spelled Tarra. As far as the meaning, it seems that every culture has this name. It is a native American name that means "Earth." To Buddhist, Tara is the female equivalent of Buddha and her name means "Saviouress" and "Star." Tarah is a place in the Bible where the Children of Israel camped out after they left Egypt.
My name is Tara Michele Ulery. My parents had such trouble agreeing on a name for me. But, as soon as my dad looked at me for the first time in the hospital, he smiled, and said "how about Tara." My mom loved it! And they chose my middle name Michele after my mom's name. I was also the only Tara I knew until I became older. Now I hear it a lot more often. It is a special name to me, and i am proud to have it!!
Tara from Oregon: My parents named me Tara because they thought the name Tara was pretty and also they liked the meanings of Tara, for instance "tower of strength" and "star". My dad wanted to name me Hannah but my mom didn't like that name and she liked the name Tara better, so they named me Tara. I pronounce my name Ter-ah but when I first meet a person they always pronounce my name Tar-ah (like the stuff on the road)-I hate when they do that!!! But I guess I do like my name:)
Timothy Nichols: I am dating a girl named Tara. She was named after the plantation in "Gone with the wind". I never realized how common this was.
My mom's favorite movie was Gone with the wind, and she also watched Days of our Lives and they had an actress on there named Tara.. She thought the name was pretty and so... there you have it. Tara it was.
On a side note, I really like my name. My grandmother wanted to name me CleashiaAnn - boy am I thankful this was not meant to be. I am flattered that she wanted to name me after my grandfather who I love and miss dearly - Warren Cleash, I just don't think it was the name for me... :)
Hi my name is Tara and my mom named me after a Egyptian Princess. My name also means "Goddess of the Sea" in Japanese!
I was born in 1972 and at that time, my mother was a big "All My Children" fan. She named me Tara after a character on the soap ... "Tara Martin" (at that time Tara Martin was played by the actress Karen Lynn Gorney).
Tara Louise Ryan, from Harrow, United Kingdom. My father's family are from the west coast of Ireland, hence my ridiculously Irish name! Doubt there's any connection with Gone With The Wind. My version's pronounced Tah-rah, with a long first A, but my (Irish) Gran pronounces it with the first A short. It's amusing that the original Gaelic version is Teamhair... The name originates with the title of the seat of the High Kings of Ireland in Co. Meath.
