The fieldwork

Our daily work in the mine consisted of digging trenches in the face of the mine, in which we could map the sediments in close detail. Back in our appartment, in the evening, we had to interprete our drawings and figured out what types of river flowed here during the last ice-age.

The main purpose of our research was to find a relationship between climate changes and changes in river-type. Fortunately, we didn't have to do the job all by ourselves: Prof. dr. Jef Vandenberghe, dr. Ko van Huissteden, dr. Kees Kasse and dr. Hanneke Bos accompanied us in the field and advised us when we were interpreting.
