The eastern part of our field area. The picture was taken near the small village of "Crans". The landscape here is characterized by meadows in the valleys and dense forests on the steep slopes.

It is hard to imagine that during the last ice-age (between 120,000 and 10,000 years ago) this region was covered by a glacier. But there is evidence that this is true. You'll find one evidence in the next slide.
