The "Chapeau de Gendarme" is located a few kilometers southeast of the town of "Saint-Claude", in the National Park of the Haut Jura. It is a well-known touristic site.

The folds of the "Chapeau de Gendarme" are created as crumples of a large fold. When you move your mouse over the picture you'll see an explanation: After the large fold was created, thin layers of rock on top of the fold slipped downward (due to gravitation) and were squeezed and crumpled.
