This picture was taken near the village of "Bourg-de-Sirod", looking towards the east. Just above the buildings, you see the "Perte de l' Ain". Here the river "Ain" broke through the hill, and the eroding forces of the water cut a narrow gorge. Because of the waterfalls in the gorge, the "Perte de l' Ain" is a well known touristic site.

On the western side of the hill, the water table is 70 meters lower than on the eastern side. Therefore, French hydrologists decided to build a hydro-electric power plant here. The pipes of this power plant are visible in the middle of the picture.

When you move your mouse over the picture you'll notice an arrow that points to a tiny waterfall.
