The rocks in this picture are the "Roche Tuilère" (on the left) and the "Roche Sanadoire" (on the right), situated south-east of the beautiful village of "Orcival". Both rocks are so called "volcanic necks". Volcanic necks are the remnants of the crater-pipes of volcanoes. Crater-pipes consist of hard material like basalt that is more resitant to erosion than the ash-layers surrounding the craters. Therefore only the necks remain visible. A typical feature of the necks in the picture is that during the ice-ages, a glacier flowed between them.
