Excursion and fieldwork in France

05-17-1997 to 06-27-1997

One of the top items of our study is the excursion that takes us all the way through France. Starting near the city of Dunkerque in the north, it took us one week to reach the Pyrénées mountain range in the south (see route-map down below). Here we stayed for one week in the Roussillon-region near the coast. During the excursion we visited remnants of ancient volcanoes, terraces created by rivers, spectacular canyons and much more.

After the excursion we spent 4 weeks in the Jura-region near the Swiss border in the east. During this fieldwork we tried to make a geomorphological map of a small part of the region. In other words: we tried to reconstruct how tectonics, rivers and glaciers shaped the landscape.

Do you want to see the entire slide show?

If you want to skip the excursion and only visit the Jura-region,
