Monday, 30th of August 1999:    Day at a glacier

We started this day with a five hour walk over the glacier "Breidamerkurjökull", watching processes going on at the glacier's surface and interior.

WARNING:     DON'T EVER WALK OVER A GLACIER WITHOUT BEING ACCOMPANIED BY AN EXPERIENCED GUIDE!!!

Surfaces of glaciers are characterized by many, up to 30 meters deep, holes and fissures. After falling in such a hole or fissure, there is no possibility of climbing out of it by yourself!!!
