"Godafoss", the Waterfall of the Gods. It is said that around the year 1000 A.D. at this place, the chairman of the parliament "Althing" threw his idols into the river, trying to avoid the outbreak of a civil war between Christians and followers of Odin. However, few Icelandic inhabitants still believe in the ancient German gods like Thor, Odin and Balder.
