During the morning, the weather wasn't good, as we could only see a gray cloud cover. The weather forecast was even worse: many overcasts were predicted. At half past eleven, there was heavy rain. At that moment, I didn't expect us to see the solar eclipse. However, only 25 minutes before the eclipse should take place, a gap in the clouds appeared above the horizon. Five of us didn't hesitate. We jumped in our cars for a rollercoaster ride towards the blue sky.

I will never ever forget that ride. With the road-map in my hands I mapped out the fastest road to the sun. Frank responded to my orders as an experienced rally-driver. "In a few moments turn to the right to take the primary road and immediately turn to the left to take the secondary road.... Drive under the viaduct there in the distance but take care! There is a square corner just behind the viaduct." Meanwhile, in the back seat Steven was looking through the windows to find out if the sun was already breaking through the clouds.

It reminded me of the storm chasers who, in the movie "Twister", are running after tornadoes. Now we were eclipse chasers.
