Wednesday, 11th of August 1999: Day of the solar eclipseThe most important day of our holiday. That day many traffic jams were expected, because a lot of people should travel towards the region in which the solar eclipse would be visible. We of course wanted to avoid these traffic jams, so we departed from our camping just after midnight. With 10 people in 4 cars we drove through a sleeping Germany towards northern France. Early morning, we arrived in a field a few kilometers south of the city of Sarreguemines, near the French-German border. Here we could do nothing more than sit and wait for the solar eclipse, which should take place at half past twelve in the afternoon.
