Gosh what a start of the new year! So much happening on my side, but let's not talk about that. First of all I want to extend my best wishes for the year 2001 to all of you, and right after that apologize for doing that in February. The issue was planned for January but I got sick and before you know it, it was February. Sorry about that.
|
This issue has some nice stories to offer, like the one about the Graham Norton Show. The show was done in December last year, but with all of the delays in making a new issue, it ended up in the February issue. Me bad, but I'll try make it up to you somehow. I'll be going to London to see the Madame Melville play beginning of March.
|
I will tell you all about it in next months issue.
For their help on this issue I like to thank: Sarah, Dmitri, Dave and Karon.
Any comments you can send to sorcerer@bart.nl or leave a message in my Guest book
Best Wishes, Mark

The Graham Norton Show
During Macaulay's stay in London he has participated in a couple of events and shows. One of the most enjoyable ones must have been the Graham Norton Show. This is a TV Show on British television that takes the Mickey out of people.
Mac was introduced to the stage by 2 scantily clad girls. He seemed to be very nervous and embarrassed to arrive in such a fashion. Then that must have been the intention, cause Graham takes every opportunity to challenge his guests! Like he had to bring up the 'My Girl' picture from Macaulay's early days and confront him with the audience, who actually didn't really respond. Graham charged by saying: "look at them, they don't give a toss!" To which Macaulay replied "Look at him now!? What happened!" Mimicking the thoughts of the audience :)
After breaking the ice, the interview continued and Macaulay tells about how they got the bees to chase him in the movie 'My Girl'. He said: "They put this stuff on my fingers that was supposed to smell like the queen or something". Obviously he was talking about the queen bee, but Graham took it literally and said: "Uurgh, that must be why she always wears those hats with the nets at the front". (Joking about the Queen of England)
They also talked about the Madame Melville play, and Macaulay said that Irene Jacob was "a very sexy French actress" to which Graham replied
"Yes even I noticed!" This caused the audience and Mac to burst out laughing, because Graham doesn't hide the fact that he's gay. Graham responded sarcastically: "Oh yeah, they should put that on the posters 'even some poof noticed!" Again Mac cracked up laughing. They talked on about Mac's first retirement and Mac said "I just decided I wanted to stop and just watch TV. And I did for about 6 years!" Then Graham responded: "But then when you finally realized there was nothing good on, didn't you just think 'Oh piss, I want to go and get a job. I actually want to do it again!" and Mac said "yes it was sort of like that".
One of the other sections of the show is called "Kids make the crummiest things" where the audience in the studio can bring things they made when they were kids. Graham then humiliates them by making fun of their stuff and telling them how awful it is. In this part of the show there is a "Security Dog" called 'Katie' (a little jack Russell terrier). Graham asked Mac to hold on to her while he showed everyone the things the audience had made. 'Katie' greeted Mac with a nice licky kiss which was almost returned by him. Graham immediately responded saying: "Oh look, another possible film 'My Dog'!".
Further down the show, Graham showed Mac this webcam video of a French bloke who was lighting his fart, or better said, was trying to light his fart! The bloke had a hard time doing so because he couldn't get himself to fart. The bloke took down his pants and jokingly stroke his bottom up close near the camera. Graham obviously didn't want to see this and tried to covered the screen. Mac had a very worried gaze, but in all found it to be hilarious.
Another item that came across the screen was a MPEG movie of a man getting his head stuck up an elephants bottom. Mac was very shocked at this and completely lost it. The whole thing was just too much to handle and you just couldn't do anything but laugh. One of the other items Graham introduced to Mac were the Kama Sutra pictures. One of them showed a woman being hoisted down onto a man's rather large 'manhood'. Mac really seemed to get hysterical with laughter at this picture as with most of the others. The whole show was basically one big laughter.
Other things happened in the show that were also amusing like the interview with Kyle MacLachlan, but basically that was more about stuff before Mac's time. Mac had a great time at the show and Graham knew about Mac's favorite drink "White Russian". So when Mac got back to the dressing room Graham arranged for all the ingredients of the "White Russian" to be present. What a way to say thank you :)

On his way to Broadway
T
ime is almost up and we are nearing March 11th. The final day for the Madame Melville play as performed in the London West End Vaudeville theatre.
But it doesn't end there! Macaulay is already preparing for this play to be performed in the New York Promenade theatre! So all of you living on the American Continent for whom most of you London was too far away, now you might get your chance and go see it in New York! The one thing you wont see there is Irene Jacob. She is not going to New York, and Macaulay is already rehearsing with another actress who will take over the role of Claudie.
Mack did love his time in London, but he is looking forward to going back to New York and seeing his three cats again. As you might have read the in Oval Soap of BorkowskiPR, Mack has recently taken on supporting the local West Ham football club (soccer for you Americans). He was introduced to them by Aidan Watts, who plays his father in Madame Melville. Macaulay thinks West Ham is great and Paolo di Cannio is his hero.

Other things Macaulay did during his time in London was for example attending the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, giving out an Award. He was accompanied in this by his family including Kieran, Rory and his Mother Patricia Bentrup. Also he had fun when attending the opening of the new Covent Garden nightclub 10. I expect they do serve White Russians there :)
In all Macaulay is doing very well, he has shown everybody by now that he is an intelligent, articulate and a very witty, wonderful person. From whom we expect a lot more in the future!

"Music of the Heart" and "She's All That"
Recently I acquired the videos for two of Kieran's latest movies: "Music of the Heart" and "She's All That". Music of the Heart displays a wonderful story that is rewarding to watch. Kieran, playing Lexi, the son of Roberta Guaspari (Meryl Streep), comes across convincing. His humble but dedicated presence adds to the overall atmosphere of the movie. Even though this movie is about Violins, Kieran is the one playing the piano! The most charming part of Kieran's performance in this movie is, together with his brother, arranging for their mother to meet new Men. A witty act, not left without result.
The other movie was 'She's All That', which was very enjoyable to watch. I expected another overrated, overdone Teen / High School movie, but this one actually touched ground. Kieran did a really Cool performance playing Simon Boggs, the little brother to Laney (Rachel Leigh Cook). The cool scenes were when Kieran was being 'the man' when he is around Zach Siler (Freddy Prince Jr.). You can mix me a drink any time Kieran :) The scene in the School's Cafeteria must be one of the best, although watching those guys eat that pizza with pubic hears made me want to vomit. Kieran's performance was really down to earth, almost like it came out natural. Basically just being himself, then again, of course I'm just guessing here. In all a great job.
If you haven't seen these movies yet, I recommend them to you. I had a great time watching them myself. I'm looking forward to Kieran's upcoming performances, as we expect to see this year in the theatre with "Dangerous life of Altar Boys" and on the TV with "Go Fish". I have no release information yet, but I'll keep you informed on any news in this area. In the mean time enjoy the movies that are already there! They are worth watching ;)
