New York - Culkin Times

J ust in the time, here is the March issue of "The New York, Culkin Times".

Life has been busy on my end, as usual. Still I try to commit myself to a new issue every month. This month's issue contains not all Culkin info but also some other info related to the movie industry. I hope to have more Culkin related stories for you next time.
Thanks to all who signed my guestbook, it is great to hear your opinion on this cyber news paper.

The week of the Macaulay interview was interesting towards the internet. It was registered that during that time the number of hits on the webpage was about four times as much as normal. Wonder how it will be when a new Culkin movie has been released.
Again all of you are welcome to send any suggestions or info for articles in here to my E-Mail address, your input is appreciated!

My gratitude goes out to Sarah for supplying me with the Macaulay picture from 'Rocket Gibraltar', to MickBo for the Midi music and to Curt for sending me the video.

Have a good one,
Mark

Uncle Buck
Recently I watched the movie 'Uncle Buck' again. One of the great Macaulay movies, but also watching John Candy go at it, made me realize just how wonderful he was.

His early death shocked many, and it is sad to realize that we are not going to see more of his great performances. John had devoted his life to acting and in the end did not get the chance to take his time and live his own life, it is a real shame. I have very fond memories of him, as I'm sure many of you do too, including Macaulay. It must have been wonderful to work with such a great person. To me John was one of the very best in entertainment, his portrayals of funny yet touchingly human characters will always stay with me.
My personal favorites are 'Uncle Buck' and 'Summer Rental'.

John Candy's career started off in 1972 when he joined in on the Canadian show 'Second City'. The show was awarded with the 'Award for Best Performance in Television' as well as Emmy Awards for outstanding writing. John received many more awards, and appeared in box-office hits like: '1941', 'The Great Outdoors', 'Planes Trains and Automobiles' and in later days 'Brewster's Millions' and 'Cool Runnings'. In these movies he worked with great names like: Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and many others.

John Candy died while working on the film 'Wagons East'.
I extend my love and wish you peace, my thoughts go out to you, I'll be missing ya........

of Uncle Buck by Miles.

Full Circle
Last week (fourth week of March) Macaulay Culkin did a monologue for the 'Ensemble Studio Theater' at Route 42, Lexington New York. It is here were Macaulay started acting when he was about six years old. He returns here now at the age of 17 showing his respects to the place where he started off. Going back there is like going Full Circle, and for those who can base their life on that, awaits a great future!

Looking back on Macaulay's career so far, we can see what has made him such a big star. It all started back in 1984 when he starred in a play 'The Nutcracker' (Not to be confused with the movie), and later on in Buster B & Olivia.

His first movie was Rocket Gibraltar in 1988 (See picture above). In this movie Macaulay plays the role of 'Cy Blue Black' who together with the other grandchildren, works on providing their grandfather with a flaming Viking Burial. Later on he starred in 'See you in the Morning' and of course as the unforgettable Miles in 'Uncle Buck'. The big breakthrough came in 1990 with the movie 'Home Alone'. This John Hughes film portrayed the story of Kevin McCallister, who was left home alone, and ended up protecting his house from the burglars.
Next he played the supporting role of Thomas J. in the movie 'My Girl' in which he gives Anna Chlumsky the charming kiss. In the next year Macaulay again strikes it big in 'Home Alone 2'. This time Kevin ends up alone in New York City, again facing the same bad guys, who this time want to rob a toystore. A very different role was played by Macaulay in the movie 'The Good Son'. In this movie he starres as 'Henry Evans' who is seen as the perfect kid, but his cousin (Elijah Wood) finds out what a psycho he really is. A real solid performance, but did not become a success. Other movies followed and after his last movies in 1994 ('Getting Even with Dad' and 'Richie Rich') Macaulay stepped away for about 3 years, but now is preparing his come back.

The interview of ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT was done in front of the Ensemble Studio Theater. It was sure good seeing Macaulay again. To me it looked like he used the past years as a time to find himself and judging on his appearance he sure liked what he found. (Hope to see more of you soon!)

For those of you who were not able to see the interview I've taken a copy of the transcript for you to read. Just click on the ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT link below.

Culkin Update
We still must be patient for Kieran's new movie 'The Mighty', for as of now the release date is still October 30 (National November 13). Let's hope Miramax sticks with the release date this time.

As for Macaulay, we are still anxiously awaiting the announcement of his new movie. The official word states, several scripts are under consideration. Rumors have indicated that the Body Piercer might not be the one, we must all be patient and see what the future will bring us. I for one can't wait!

The 1998 Oscar Awards
Back in 1928 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences created a special film award. The Award was suggested by MGM and it's design is originating from Cedric Gibbons, one of their art directors. It was sculptured in L.A. by George Stanly.

The statue is 131/2 inches tall, weighs 81/2 pounds and is 51/4 inches in diameter at the base. It represents a knight holding a crusader's sword standing atop a real of film whose five spokes signifies the five original branches of the Academy (Actors, Directors, Producers, Technicians and Writers) Presently the sculpture is composed in Britannia metal and then copper-, nickel-, silver-, and 24-karat gold-plated. The design of the statuette is copyrighted by the Academy, and has not changed from its original conception, except for the size.
