In 1991 Ondine de Kroon made o set of live colour lithographs en the theme of the art collector. The illustrious compony included not only Federigo da Montefeltro, Charles 1 and Martin Visser, but also Goethe's friend Johann Gottlob van Quandt, who is shown here. Making unabashed use of existing images, Ondine de Kroon has staged a scene in which fact and fiction are combined. Her portrait of Von Quandt is based on a painting by Vogel von Vogelstein (1778-1 868) and to this she has added other elements in order to typify the 19th-century collector. The religious prints shown in the original portrait have made way for scenes with Castles and princes on horseback, white a Romantic landscape by the famous German pointer Caspar David Friedrich gleams like a sign on the wall.
