Silay City is known for its old colonial style architectural shaped buildings from the Spanish Rule for hundreds of
years. At this moment you may re-live this period by paying a visit to Balay Negrense, the museum depicting these times; it's definitely worth a try ! Presently Silay City is a busy place located
along the provincial road from Bacolod City which is the provincial capital of Occidental, up north to Victorias ('Church with the angry Christ'). A jeepney will bring you in just a jiffy to
Bacolod City, the provincial capital city of
Negros Occidental. The Capitol Building which formerly housed the provincial Governor is now changed into a museum as well. It shows life of Negros until present times. There's lots to discover in that place of 'smile' as they call it ! Besides it gives you plenty of
ideas to start your journey to the rest of the province - or island, just from this city. Heading north to Sagay or going down under to Dumaguete. Or enjoy
Mambucal at the slopes of mount (volcano - and not that dormant!)
Kanla'on providing hot water springs !

Negros island is part of the
Visayas Group of islands in the central Philippine Archipelago. Sugarcane is the main crop on the island of Negros. A sugar mill named
'Central Hawaiian Philippine' near Silay
City still uses steam locomotives as a way of bringing-in the cane after it's harvested ...
manually. Today several different sugar mills scattered all over Negros process the cane into
sugar. There's always a fair chance to witness a magnificent sunset on one of the islands belonging to the Visayas region within
this archipelago !
