1992

In 1992 the colour of the car changed from white into (racing) green. The Lotus was now powered by a Ford engine, so the full name of the car was: Lotus-Ford 107. Mika still drove car number 11 and his team-mate for the whole season was Johnny Herbert driving car number 12.

Mika's best qualifying position that year was a 7th place on the grid in Portugal as well as in Japan. His best finishes in 1992 were two 4th places in France and Hungary, so he was just a small step away from his first podium-finish! With 11 points Mika ended up as number 8 in the Championship. Johnny was unlucky that year with only 4 finishes and just one championship point (6th in South-Africa). Nigel Mansell (also a future team-mate) became world champion. Mika left Lotus at the end of 1992. He was replaced by Italian Alessandro (Alex) Zanardi. Johnny stayed untill 1994 when he switched via Ligier to Benetton. After having driven for Sauber and Stewart, Johnny drove his last F1 race for Jaguar in 2000.
