de band
In 2007 The Reeds was founded as a result of Rik van den Bergh's Serge Chaloff project. The Band is no less than a 'dream team': five of the finest Dutch saxophone players in one section, playing with one of the most swinging rhythm sections in Holland. They are all members of The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and/or The Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, and they are not only great section players but also top soloists. They played with great saxophone players like George Coleman, Lew Tabackin, Teddy Edwards, Jimmy Halperin, Scott Hamilton, Sonny Fortune and Lee Konitz to name a few.
Marco Kegel / alto saxophone
is lead alto in the Rotterdams Jazz Orchestra. Together with Simon Rigter he forms the frontline of Saxology. In 2003 he recorded the CD Jonquil with Lee Konitz and the Gustav Klimt String Quartet. As lead alto player Marco toured with the Dutch Jazz Orchestra in 2008/09. He performed with colleages like Gary Foster, Lee Konitz, Sonny Fortune and Jimmy Halperin.
Jan Smit / alto saxophone
is a great doubler but first of all he is a fantastic alto player. He is a member of the Young Sinatras and the Flamingo's and leads his own quartet. Jan is a regular stand-in of the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra and a sought-after reed player in Holland.
Simon Rigter / tenor saxophone
is saxophonist in the Ruud Breuls/Simon Rigter Quintet and Saxology. He is playing tenor in the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, The Dutch Jazz Orchestra and in Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. He played and/or recorded with George Coleman, Slide Hampton and Curtis Fuller among others. Simon is saxophone teacher at the Conservatory of Rotterdam.

He recorded with trombone player Slide Hampton and played with Lew Tabackin, Scott Hamilton and Deborah Brown to name a few. Sjoerd is saxophone teacher at the Conservatory of Zwolle.
Rik van den Bergh / baritone saxophone
is one of the few Dutch saxophonists exclusively focussing on the baritone. For a number of years he was active with his baritone/Hammond-organ quartet Swingmatism. At this moment he is a member of the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra and of the Young Sinatra's. In 2008 his CD Reserge (a tribute to Serge Chaloff and recorded with The Reeds) has been released.
