Jan Oomen (1917-1995), drawings Drawing was one of Jan's favourite pastimes. For many years, he was a member of the local drawing club. He also enjoyed organizing exhibitions. If no exhibition room was willing to show his work, he would hang his drawings behind the apartment building where he lived during the last ten years of his life and he would invite all his neighbours for a true vernissage. The topics of his pen and black ink drawings were quite pastoral. A sense of nostalgia to the village of his youth is visible in the following example of his work. It shows the old church of Oosterhout as it was hundreds of years ago.
return to top Joost was the oldest son of Jan and his wife Ans. He was born in 1946 anddied at a young age in 1974. Much like his father, Joost liked to draw with pen and black ink. Most of his work was lost, but the following example shows he had some talent. It is remarkable how much his theme is the same as his father's.
return to top Jonas was born in 1983 as the second child of Marcel Oomen (1953-) and Anna Zandvliet (1956-). As a devoted comics reader, he once said he wanted to become a famous comic book writer. His figures usually have very distorted proportions, as shown below. But Walt Disney's first drawings weren't too refined either, were they?
