Specifications of the Northrop N9M R/C model

Construction:
This model of the N9M is not built from scratch but is an adaption of a Klingberg Sport wing model.
The Klingberg wing is a direct copy of the N9M minus the canopy and the engine booms.
The real N9M is 60 feet across and the model is 60".
The outline is identical and the wing twist is 4 degrees, just like the original!
The engine thrust lines are set at +7 degrees, also just like the original!
The center of gravity is exactly on the parting line of the clear part of the canopy and the solid rear section.

Equipment:
The model is powered by 2 Graupner speed 400 electric motors.
The props are Tornado 6" by 3 pitch (counter rotating).
The spinners are by Aeronaut (1.5").
The landing gear is wire with Robart plastic strut covers.
The wheels are Robart 2" on the rear and a Klett 1" on the front.
The model is equiped with an Airtronics computer radio with elevon mixing and has a 8 cell battery pack.

Purpose:
Flying wings are very slim in profile and they are difficult to guide unless they are kept flying overhead!
Paul Aldredge is currently building a massive 1/8th scale Horten Ho 229 V3 flying wing model (see the page Horten Ho 229 V3 R/C model on this website) and this model requires a R/C pilot who is trained in guiding flying wing models.
The Northrop N9M model serves as a trainer for the Ho 229 V3. It is well suited to provide the necessary flying wing experience before the first flight of the Ho 229 V3 model commences.
