Nicaragua
You
can find Nicaragua in Central-America, in the north it is bound by Honduras,
in the east by the Caribian sea, in the south by Costa Rica and in the
west by the Pacific Ocean.
The
name of Nicaragua comes of Náhuatl,the language of the original
inhabitants,Nic-atl-nahuac,this means: Here together by the water.
It is the biggest nation in Central-America and contains 129.494 km2
and has ± 4,8 miljoen inhabitans. The biggest part of the population
exist of mestizos,namely 69%. 17% is white,9% is black and of the origenal
indian population only exist 5%. The black and the indian population
live mainly in the east of Nicaragua. For that reason in the east you
can hear a lot of english and indian language. The official language
is spanish. Also you can find in Nicaragua the only fresh water lake
of the world where live sharks.
History
.In
1502 Nicaragua became "discovert" by Columbus.In 1524 it became
a part of the Spanish empire. And in 1821 it became independent of Spain.
Afther
40 years, in 1979, there became a end of the dictatorship of the Somoza
familie. With help of the United States the civelwar blaze up a few
years later. With the elections of 1990 it became to a end. As of january
2002 Enrique
Bolaños is the new president.
