The following appointment & promotions appear in the papers of the 9th. Nov. 1864 "Admiralty, Nov. 8th. Surgeons - Dr Henry J. Domville, to be Deputy Inspector-General at Bermuda Hospital; John Mc Swiney to the Formidable (additional), for service with the Royal Marines at Deal; Dr Wm. Duirs, to be Surgeon and medical Storekeeper at Plymouth Hospital; Dr. Wm. L Gordon, to be Asst. Surgeon at Portsmouth Dockyard; Dr. John H. Patterson, Staff Surgeon, to be Staff Surgeon at Depford Dockyard." Thus a junior is promoted and two men not yet Staff Surgeons get Staff Appointments. I have done with them. I make no further applications to either Summerset House [the Medical Department of the Navy] or Whitehall [the Admiralty proper]. |
In fact, nine months later, he did apply again.
