Duxford

The Imperial War Museum Duxford is one of the largest aviation musea in Europe, it is built on and around a former RAF fighter airfield which played an important role in the Battle of Brittain and much of the airfield is preserved as it was during the early 1940s. Between 1943 and 1945 Duxford was a US 8th airforce base. There are five hangars, four of them filled with aircraft of all types and times, the fifth is totaly dedicated to land warfare.

The Corsair is one of the many planes you can see in the air and on the ground, this one returned in the evening from an airshow elsewhere and gave a little demonstration for the crowd that had gathered at the fenses.

Restoring old aircraft is one of the many tasks of Duxford, you can see them being restored, thats very interesting too see. Although I'd much rather see them in the skies. This plane here is a Bristol Beaufighter.

This Grumman F-2 Wildcat is airworthy, like most of the planes on display.

This Fairey Firefly 1 isn't in flying condition. Its almost 2000 hp Griffon engine silent.

A P-40 Kittyhawk with its beautiful tiger markings.

A twoseater spit taking of for a demo.

This is her on the ground.
