MiG 29 ‘Fulcrum’

The first prototype of the, by NATO designated, Fulcrum flew on the sixth of October 1977, it was first detected by the West at the end of the seventies. It made its first public appearance in 1986 when six MiG 29’s were sent to Finland for a friendly visit. The MiG ( wich stands for Mikoyan Gurevich, the company ) was built as an interceptor, but it can also serve as an attack aircraft. It is a formidable aircraft, and is an equal opponent of the F 15, and F 16, some critics say that it is even beter. Due to drastic cutbacks in the Russian defense budget, they only placed limited orders. The Fulcrum is a very good export product, because it costs less then its American counterparts. Countries as Italy, India, Irak, and former Warschau-pact members, fly them in their airforces.
