"Hi, I'm HJ. Welcome to my website. Thanks for visiting.
I'm a composer and multi-instrumentalist
making mainly instrumental music with roots in surf/instro, 60's-70's spy / sci-fi/ action / Italian
movie soundtracks, space-age-pop, exotica and experimental music. I make music for film, advertising and
as an independent art form. I'm currently recording new work for my second solo CD. I want to make music that is a pleasure to listen to.
I'm often told that my music radiates positivity and lightness and has a happy sound. Though I don't do this intentionally, I'm actually quite proud of it
As an eclectic music fan, I listen to rock, pop, jazz, classical, early electronics, a bit of everything really,
If it's made with passion, there is a fair chance I will like it.

I admire musicians who dare to
try a bit of experimentation, leading to unpredictable, often fantastic, sometimes horrible but always
interesting results.
As a composer I'm influenced by Ennio Morricone, John Barry, Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith, Lalo Schifrin, Esquivel, Piero Umiliani,
Joe Meek, Dick Dale, Frank Zappa and any cool surf/instro band (check out Rhino's "Cowabunga!"- surf box!).
My guitar playing is influenced by Syd Barrett, Link Wray, Mick Ronson, Cliff Gallup, Dick Dale, Danny Gatton and Mauro Giuliani.
My saxophone heroes are Art Pepper, Eric Dolphy, John Zorn and Cannonball Adderley.
On my self titled debut CD, you can hear pop/rock songs and instrumentals. It is very eclectic.
Since then, I've decided focus on instrumental work, because that is what I seem to do best.
You can listen to some of my instrumentals on my MySpace page, or buy my first solo cd from CD Baby and various other sources. To my knowledge the lowest prices are at CD Baby. That is also for the mp3's!

Some facts about HJ
|
Born in The Netherlands, HJ learned to play flute at young age, then switched to guitar
and alto-sax, followed by every musical instrument he could lay his hands on. He played guitar in the Dutch rock
group Garbitsjkeng, though was forced to quit after a minor aeroplane accident. Loud music became unbearable to
one of his ears for a couple of years. Searching for alternative ways to carry on his passion, he built his own studio
to record his music. Meanwhile he has written and recorded about 75 songs and instrumentals.
A selection of these are available on his self titled solo CD, which has been released in August 2006.
HJ also created music for commercials and soundtracks for films by artist Luciano Pinna,
graduated from the famous Gerrit Rietveld Art Academy, with whom he occasionally works as the band Stunfish.
