In 1994 illy released a Prima Collezione collection set, designed by Simone Meentzen. But as you can see above, beside the collection and the bar cups series another set, with the inscription "Slow
Food", was made. Founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1986, Slow Food is an international association that promotes food and wine culture and opposes the standardisation of taste.
So what's the story with this set that's not listed and mentioned by illy? Alberto Villa told me about it.
The set was originally sold in Italy directly from the Slow Food Foundation to its members. Once a year Slow Food sent a catalogue where you could buy books, selected wines and delicatessen and in 1993 they featured these special Illy cups too.
The 500 signed and numbered set were sold for about €40/€50!
