![]() On the illy site it says that this limited edition illy collection cup, designed by Luca Trazzi, succeeds in combining the pleasure of an espresso with the dreamlike image of a tropical beach… For those lucky people who drank an espresso or a cappuccino in the Beach Plaza Hotel in Mote Carlo in 1996, it must have been just like that. And for those who bought a cup or just could not resist to take a cup home with them, pleasure even becomes bigger……because I think this is one of the most wanted illy collection cups. Only 1000 espresso and cappuccino size cups were made, just for this Hotel and until 1999 (in the "catalogo 1992-2000" that came with the special, 7 cups, Minimalia set), you could not find the cup in the booklets that came with the illy collection sets. I guess that the hotel was a big customer and maybe they negotiated with illy that they could get the exclusive rights to deliver the coffee…when a special collection cup for them was made for the hotel only? As you can see with previous sets, in the “early” collection years, many things happened. Who knows? Fact is that many of those cups must have been destroyed during the years, so I think that it will be very hard to find one. For those of you who are planning a trip to the Beach Plaza Hotel to see if they can still find one on the bar…sorry, but all collection cups are gone. Good news is that there are still the Beach Plaza bar cups with the "illy espresso" inscription. These cups are interesting too because they are not exactly the same as the illy collection cups. In 1997 the Beach Plaza changed its name into Le Meridien Beach Plaza and that’s the inscription on the new cups. |
