The 1999 Minimalia exhibition "An Italian Vision in 20th Century Art" at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York, marks the first time that illycaffè provided funding for an art event in the United States.
On that occasion, Italian artist Mimmo Paladino (born 1948 in Paduli) was asked to create seven unique art works for a limited edition of illy espresso cups.
Yes, seven cups, they came in a 1999 special suitcase edition.
However, the regular illy collection 2000 set came in
a standard gift box with coffee and a brochure.
