Daniel Buren (blu/bianco)



Daniel Buren was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, France in 1938. For about 40 years, he has turned his critical gaze to the sites where he is to intervene, the peculiarities of which are revealed by his site specific projects. In 1996, he joined Mosset, Parmentier and Toroni, and during their radical exhibitions/actions he looked into "zero degree painting", rejoining the positions of the Internationale Situationiste. From the 80s onwards, his works concerned mostly urban projects, like the Palais Royale in Paris, or Place de Terraux, in Lyons. The presence of Daniel Buren’s works in an exhibition can be immediately detected thanks to what he himself calls "outil visuel" (visual tool): 8.7 cm-wide striped bands characterised by the alternation of white and colour.

He is frequently invited to exhibit by the major international institutions. In 2003, a large Daniel Buren exhibition was held at the Municipal Museum of Toyota, Japan, and important exhibitions have been mounted in the most authoritative galleries: Masataka Hayakawa in Japan, Massimo Minini in Brescia, Italy, and the Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, Italy. At the moment He still lives and works in situ.

On May 13, 2004 Daniel Buren presented "Quatre fois moins ou quatre fois plus?", a joint-collaboration project with illycaffè and Galleria Continua at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

At this exhibition, illy launched two illy collection sets with coffee and a brochure: blu e bianco, which you can see aside and another one in the colors verde e bianco.
