ART KEPT ME OUT OF JAIL AND OUT OF MUSEUMS

Belgium artist Jan Fabre (born 1958) is one of of the few modern representatives of renaissance art. Fabre had the honor to be the first Belgium artist to decorate an illy set (the blue hour) in 2006.

In 2008 he had the honor to designed a single cup on the occasion of his performance at the Louvre on April 22, 2008 This performance was part of his exhibition L'Ange de la Metamorphose" at the Louvre in Paris (April 11 - July 7, 2008).

Fabre explores one his favourite themes, that of sacrifice, choosing the colours red and black (for both the cup and saucer), which are essentially colours of passion, of love, struggle and politically those of anarchy. Printed in black are the words: ART KEPT ME OUT OF JAIL (on the cup) AND OUT OF MUSEUMS ( on the saucer).

The cup came in a special package with the usual little brochure and was for sale in the Louvre bookshop for the duration of the exhibition and on the USA web-site for a very short period.
